TPL was established in July 2008 to act as the concessionaire in Tonga's concession based electricity regulation regime. TPL generates, distributes, and sells to all our commercial and domestic customers in Tongatapu, Vavaú, Haápai and Éua. Tonga Power's core purpose is to, "Reduce Tonga's vulnerability to oil price shocks, and achieve an increase in quality access to modern energy services in an environmentally sustainable manner" via its strategies and Business Plan and to be financially sustainable. As a state owned enterprise TPL continues to deliver the Government of Tonga's vision for the energy sector to, "reduce Tonga's vulnerability to oil price shocks, and achieve an increase in quality access to modern energy services in an environmentally sustainable manner".
